Builders of Hope Case Study

REPORT DEVELOPMENT, BRAND EXTENSION & MEDIA RELATIONS

Builders of Hope CDC launched a new policy toolkit that identifies Dallas’s most vulnerable neighborhoods and provides policy solutions to address residential displacement. They approached The Shearer Group to support in bringing the idea of this valuable toolkit to life.

The Problem

Over the last two years, Builders of Hope Community Development Corporation has been developing an anti-displacement toolkit to inform housing policy for the city of Dallas. They spent countless hours gathering and analyzing data in order to make specific, data-informed policy recommendations. They also hosted city-wide open houses, numerous neighborhood listening sessions, knocked on over 1,000 doors and surveyed more than 400 Dallas residents impacted by rising housing costs and neighborhood change across the city. 

They needed an engaging way to showcase their findings and a partner to help them see the project to fruition, including a dynamic, authentic visual identity for the toolkit, branded assets to amplify the toolkit’s footprint, and media relations.

The Solution

The Shearer Group toured the toolkit’s target neighborhoods and identified key cultural landmarks to act as key illustrations and the foundation of the “A Right to Stay” micro-brand. We designed a culturally relevant and visually authentic brand to represent the community engagement that’s central to the Builders of Hope’s work and research. We also supported the release of the finished A Right to Stay: Dallas Anti-Displacement Toolkit by expanding the toolkit visuals to a gallery walk experience, a branded event program, and—of course—a media relations strategy focusing on clear, consistent messaging. 

The Results 

A Right to Stay will become the center of efforts to create meaningful policy change within the City of Dallas and will be presented to the Dallas City Council in January 2025 by Builders of Hope CDC.
